How to Crochet a Star Applique
This is an easy pattern to make a small star applique. The size of your hook and yarn will determine the size of the end result. I used a H/5mm hook with worsted weight yarn and my star is about 2.5 inches across from point to opposite point. Perfect for sewing on to just about anything! If you want your star smaller, use a smaller hook and/or a lighter yarn. For a larger star, use a larger hook and/or thicker yarn.
ABBREVIATIONS:
CH = Chain
DC = Double Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
SC= Single Crochet
SL ST = Slip Stitch
WRITTEN PATTERN Begin with a magic circle (click here for tutorial).
RND1: CH 1. SC 10 inside the circle. Pull beginning yarn tight to almost close the circle. Join with SL ST in top of 1st SC. RND2: CH 4. Skip one CH and SC in 2nd CH from hook, top loop only. HDC in next CH. DC in next CH.
Skip one SC of circle and SL ST to complete one star side. Repeat 4 more times.
If you will be sewing this applique on to another crochet item, leave a long tail to use to attach it. Otherwise, just cut a short tail and weave it in to the back of the star. Also weave in the beginning yarn end.
The video tutorial at the bottom of the page will walk you through the entire pattern.
