Newborn Textured Beanie - Free Crochet Pattern

This sweet little hat is so cute and works up very quickly! The textured stitching gives a different look to a solid colored hat and makes it so soft! It is made of simple double crochets and a double crochet variation. A video tutorial is at the end the page if you need help with the written pattern.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Worsted Weight Yarn

Crochet Hook size 5mm

Scissors and Needle for finishing

ABBREVIATIONS:

CH = Chain

DC = Double Crochet

FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet

HDC = Half Double Crochet

RND = Round

SL ST = Slip Stitch

GAUGE:

7 DC = 2 inches

NOTES:

- The CH-2 at the beginning of each row is not counted in stitch count.

- If you use baby yarn, you may need to use a larger hook to achieve gauge.

- To make a larger size, continue increasing the circle with plain DC until you have the size you want, then begin the textured stitching.

WRITTEN PATTERN:

Begin with a Magic Circle. CH 2.

RND 1: DC 10 in center of circle. Pull beginning yarn tail to close the circle. Join with SL ST in top of 1st DC.

RND 2: CH 2. DC 2 in same stitch and each stitch around. (count=20). Join with SL ST in top of 1st DC.

RND 3: CH 2. DC in same stitch. DC 2 in next stitch. Repeat [DC 1, DC 2] around. (count=30) Join with SL ST in top of 1st DC.

RND 4: CH 2. DC in same stitch. FPDC in next stitch. [DC and FPDC] in next stitch. Repeat [DC, FPDC, DC+FPDC] around. (count=40 for this rnd and the rest of the pattern)

RND 5: CH 2. Repeat [FPDC, DC] around.

RND 6: CH 2. Repeat [DC, FPDC] around.

RND 7: CH 2. Repeat [FPDC, DC] around.

RND 8: CH 2. Repeat [DC, FPDC] around.

RND 9: CH 2. Repeat [FPDC, DC] around.

RND 10: CH 2. Repeat [DC, FPDC] around.

RND 11: CH 1. HDC in same stitch and each stitch round. Join with SL ST in top of 1st HDC. Finish off and weave in ends.
